Miss Universe 2020
FRANCISCA LUHONG JAMES

Carven Ong has truly outdone himself with his stunning creations for Francisca Luhong James in Miss Universe 2020, aptly themed "Kampungku" to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and lifestyle of Malaysians. The first national costume is a breathtaking homage to the Malaysian culture, adorned with intricate batik patterns with a monochromatic approach, representing the tapestry of Malaysia's diverse society. The costume's silhouette reflects the grace of traditional Malay attire, with a modern twist that accentuates Miss Universe's elegance. The second ensemble, inspired by the indigenous tribes of Malaysia, is a striking testament to the nation's indigenous roots. Crafted with authentic fabrics and adorned with tribal motifs in intricate embroideries and beadings, it pays homage to the land's native heritage. The photoshoot set against the backdrop of a traditional shelter evokes a sense of nostalgia and authenticity, capturing the essence of "Kampungku" perfectly. These national costumes not only reflect Malaysia's cultural richness but also showcase the designer's remarkable talent in merging tradition with contemporary aesthetics, making them worthy contenders on the global stage of Miss Universe 2020.
